Dublin based actor Michael Hayes hails originally from Navan in Co. Meath, it was here that he cut his teeth with Navan Theatre Group as a youngster.
He joined the ranks of the professionals in 1997 playing Barbara Brennans son in Picture of Paradise by Jimmy Murphy in The Peacock Theatre.
Since then he has enjoyed much work in theatre, film, television and radio. Among his favourite theatre roles Philly Cullen in Playboy of The Western World and as Michael Maher in Jim Nolan’s Blackwater Angel, both at The Abbey Theatre, Dublin.
With Druid Theatre he was Amiens and Silvius in Shakespeare’s As You Like It, and Tom in Philadelphia Here I Come. In Jeremy Kareken’s Duck Rabbit Duck he played the vicious character Horst in Andrews Lane Studio. With Red kettle Theatre Co. he was Fr Rock in A Miracle in Ballymore. With Yew Tree Theatre Company and Cork Opera house production of the John Breen play Charlie he played the role of the late Minister for Justice Sean O Doherty. Also with Yew Tree and Cork Opera House he was Christy Mahon in The Playboy of The Western World.
Film and Television roles have included; Game of Thrones, Fair City, The Tudors, Inside I’m Dancing (AKA Rory o Shea Was Here), Malice Aforethought, Intermission, Ordinary Decent Criminal, Rebel Heart, Rat, On Home Ground and most recently presenting the highly successful five season run of RTE’s How Low Can You Go?
Michael can be heard as a regular contributor on the award winning Sean Moncrieff Show on Newstalk 106.
He is kind to pigs. (yet still enjoys pork products)
